Today's colors are white and gold. I have white roses on my kitchen table and this Seletti milk carton jug will make them company soon. Meanwhile at work, I styled white cashmere with gold brocade. I enjoy my internship so extremely much, it's kinda scary to realize I am part of something I've always aspired to do. I'm so nervous though, today at shoot I couldn't stand still so I was just steaming and brushing every garment I had brought just in case. It's going to take a while to learn how to breathe at set...

I live in a very dangerous neighbourhood these days...for my wallet. Well, there is not much going on in my neighbourhood except a lot of lovely buildings and a big Orthodox church, but there is all the right stuff. Skilled cobbler next door, restaurant Wellamo downstairs, a newly opened cozy Italian cafe cafe with assortment of delicious candies and an Arelalizza boutique filled with beautiful cashmere pieces. In the opening a while back there were dancers and awkward me touching every garment, knowing I can't afford even after sale but happy that they were there. You know?

I hope the camera repair shop is open the next time I take my Mamiya RB67 to repair.
Last time it wasn't and I ended up with wool-camel blend coat, cashmere sweater, leather gloves and awkward print shirt instead.

When I first bought those print pants the beginning of last summer, I felt pretty ridiculous. After actually wearing them, I felt ridiculously good.

I guess it's the moment when you realize you can finally have it all.

I bought a pair of Falke's socks the other day, silk-cashmere blend and became childishly happy. They are so soft, like a second skin, you forgot you have put socks on the minute you pull them up. Pure bliss, in a form of socks. I know I'm a victim of consumerism but this time I'm loving it.

I've been looking for them for a year now, it would have been too tragic to lose those darlings.

I haven't been to second hands or flea markets lately. For three months exactly.
I used to raid them weekly with a passion. Luckily.
Such a silly thing teached me how to reach out for something more.

And I'm tired now, I'm happy. I'm confused.
I guess I have to read some more books, spend some more nights laughing with my friends, develop a dozen of films, I'll figure it out.

This tea I'm drinking tastes pretty good. Life is pretty good.

Then again, I have been gifted with selective memory.

Lately I've been listening to this Active Child and How To Dress Well's song Playing House. After getting over how much I like the cheesy song, I've been wondering, what do they mean with their line Baby we're just playing house, just cause it feels good. What feels good? What do they mean with the word house? House music, are they trying to reach out to the girl with some classic Chigago house tracks? Are they playing House the show on dvd? Are the guys playing the lead character of the show, House, in order to solve problems? Or are they being like kids playing nuclear family since they are clearly adult males ready the share their feelings and build a nest? Or playing with kids miniature houses?

It's a mystery...

I have a problem with bombers. They bring me back to my childhood, around 5th grade. We were pretty poor in a way that I couldn't afford a new winter jacket. So I was forced to wear a faded army green bomber with an old adidas logo in the back. It would probably be super-wanted today but back then, I tell you, I was in pain. So no trendy bomber for me, even if it's from Heikki Salonen. I'd take the long sturdy coat instead any day thank you.

In terms of photography lately I've had a Olympus Mju with some dia film in it to work a bit on the third serie, on my request to explore bright and vivid colours. Soon starts the race of preparing (hopefully, really fucking hopefully) a portfolio for Central Saint Martins, spring is here sooner than you think. I might have to start to drink this magic potion people call coffee regurarly in few months, since I'm interning full time and working on the side and I have to find energy somewhere. Oh well, if I get hyper after one espresso, I predict five cups can do wonders in a short period of use. Gladly, finnish winter that streches out to spring is really long and really dark, leaving plenty of time for strict work since it's too damn cold to go outside. You can't chill cause it's too chill!

Asger Juel Larsen is a danish-born designer and a London College of Fashion graduate. His SS12 lookbook wash shot in a Danish castle Elsinor, famous for Shakespeare's play Hamlet. One of my high school memories is one Literature teacher who organized cheap theatre tickets, and one of the plays was a very physical and contemporary take on Hamlet. It was pretty intense.

Ann Demeulemeester has collaborated with thecorner.com, creating a four piece capsule collection for Christmas. My favorite from the collection is cashmere-blend rib top with a snow print, reminding of winter that is slowly making its way present.

I adore the short film and pictures artist Erik Madigan Heck has made for the collaboration. The film makes me happy, with its Cicero essay, raw urbanism and relaxing nature. IT'S MY BIRTHDAY AND I KNOW I WANT TO RIDE OUT

I turned 21 today.
I had my party on Saturday.
Soon all the dishes will be done, all there is left is love and happiness in the air.
I wore a blue Helmut Lang (the old & good, authentic) silk dress, black Samu-Jussi Koski for Marimekko wool blazer, Wolford Fatal 50 deniers and Acne Tracks in colour Wood.
I spent the evening with my friends and tasted the best mushroom sauce in my life at the restaurant downstairs of my place.

Being 20 has been...WOW!
If someone would tell me that I will get the chance to interview Franca Sozzani or get into London College of Fashion and decline the place or meet the love of my life or have my photographs advertising an exhibition of a major museum (Kiasma in Finland) or intern at a PR office or get an internship in a fashion magazine (next January I start at Finnish mag Trendi), not to mention all the friends I have made, in one year...I just never thought I'd be this happy. Looking back, I'm humble.

I hope 21 is just as exciting. I have no big birthday gift wishes, but I have wishes for the forthcoming 12 months.

I want to get into Central Saint Martin's Fashion Communication with Promotion,
or then any good program in Scandinavia (any tips?).

I want to work.

I want to have a nice dinner once in a while.

And most of all, I want to push people, and by pushing I mean support.

You can do it.

Figure out who you are first, it's the hardest part.

Rest of it is a piece of cake.

I'm quite drawn to Jean Paul Gaultiers old work. It all started with one old picture where Christy Turlington was wearing a goat fur jacket. Did you now that Martin Margiela worked at Gaultier before starting his own line? Now all we wish that he would still be at his namesake house.

When I stumbled upon a excellent Steven Meisel editorial from Vogue Italy's March 1999 Couture supplement not only did I find two awesome Gaultier Couture outfits to dissect, I had also found a new favorite stylist Nicoletta Santoro, now working for Vogue China. God damn Chinese, they now have everything! In this particular editorial the combination of covered hair, oiled faces, powerful poses and slightly white painted, dusty looking skin is simply amazing. It looks like ancient greek statues have come alive in a messy construction site in couture heaven. Perfect.

In Finland, reindeer stew is considered as a national dish. It is so common that it's regularly served at school cafeterias. It's No wonder that Samuji, a fashion label by ex-Marimekko designer Samu-Jussi Koski, has introduced a dress and a t-shirt in Finnish reindeer leather for current season. The dress, in a shade of mud green, is extremely soft and feels light and easy to wear. It is perfect for Autumn's fetes, not to forget that it's Christmas time soon!

These are my favorite pieces from ae's first collection for 2012.
In their presentation models stepped up on cut tree trunks to show the collections extremely beautiful jackets, volumes, amazing details and color contrasts.
The lookbook indicates that the white tops are silk, as is the white jacket and orange pants.
I don't mind at all, lately I've been wearing silk almost every day.
For picky people this collection might turn out to be a nightmare - you end up wanting it all!

I have picked up a habit of wearing extremely conservative outfits at my new work as sales assistant. It bases on these two items from Acne, chocolate brown Track boots and baby blue menswear inspired shirt. Well, the collar of the shirt is frayed and not to worry, I just found second hand Ann Demeulemeester shoes for 33 euros. They are for next summer though, I am trying to fill up my summer wardrobe consisting of almost two pieces. What can I say, I just like winter and autumn and wools. Or maybe leave the winter part out...

Hello guys! I am sorry for the absence.

For the record, I am wearing a black MaxMara lambswool turtleneck and cropped camel pants with a knot in the front that are made from tencel and that I strangely enough picked up from H&M. Then I have a black leather jacket with lambs fur sleeves, a cognac saddle bag and black patent mens shoes. I've also added a wood bangle, small silver earrings and a discreet silver ring.

I ordered a pair of beautiful Dries Van Noten silk pants from his Spring Summer 2010 collection.

During my blog absence I have been thinking about clothes and style and fashion business more than ever. Mostly it something silly like, damn wouldn't it be nice to touch a luxurious fabric that contains 10% of qiviut, which is softer than cashmere and warmer than lambswool and costs about 2500 euros per meter plus the expenses of tailor made suit.

When I grow up, I want to have cashmere carpets and live in a bubble where everything is soft and nice no one justifies buying a acrylic microtrend sweater.

This is just a small detail but you know where the best parts of life reside.

In the details.

Most of us like details only because they want to blind themselves from the bigger picture.

In my opinion, there is nothing wrong with that, but only if we are able to admit it.

I know it's a lot to ask for but in words of Steve Jobs:

As some of you might have noticed, I opened my website couple of weeks (months probably) ago! Right now it's only consisting of one ongoing serie about nothing more or less than time. Where does it go exactly?

I am going to wear it with oversized grey cashmere sweater and Acne Track's this fall.

LAITINEN SPRING SUMMER 2012

These are my favorites from the Laitinen SS12 collection.
What draws me to the collection this season is again the use of materials and fabric.
Reindeer leather, metallic silk, waxed cotton, linen, you name it.
Not to mention the cotton/linen floral print (!) is very contemporary, hi Tyler The Creator.
And the seersucker suit is incredibly beautiful.

Damn you clothes getting me emotional...

I'm took out my second hand Italian linen pinstripe blazer and I've been wearing it with joy the past weeks.
It's unlined and I putting it on always makes me feel like I'm going to a holiday.
Something so simple can change your whole mindset.
Not bad for a piece of garment bought for 30 cents...

LISTEN HOW THEY GROW

Okay, sorry guys for not updating for two weeks. I've been mostly running around in overly air conditioned office in a white hippie dress, Wolford tights and Acne Tracks...
That I actually took off and forgot under my desk when I arrived today.
They are nude, damn easily scratching soft leather and I got them from sales with a nice 60% discount.
Which still means that (right after today) I will eat mostly porridge for a month.

Helen took these wonderful pictures one beautiful evening in the beginning of summer, I was wearing a blue 70s cotton dress that has too much fabric and golden threads running through.
I have spontaneously went for a night swim in it years ago with my dear friends, after a Pet Shop Boys concert we loved.
I didn't wash it for a while because the smell of salt and summer night made me remember how happy and young I and everyone else around me was.
Now I have it captured in pictures.

My mom brought home some old Elle Finland magazines and I remembered I was in one of them telling a couple lines of my love for second hand and I never posted photos. So here is happy me last May wearing all second hand except the French Connection shoes.

First things first, you know how good a simple, ice cold mango-pineapple smoothie tastes in the park, in the sun? In your lunch hour? In the summer when you have two days off?

This week has kept me busy, I styled the cover of a magazine, finished a book on branding and marketing and won a round of backgammon. Woke up around 7.45 every morning and wore basically the same tragic black clothes everyday. Today I am wearing blue and gold and green and leopard as a revenge, the weekend is going to be pretty dangerous in the style department also.

I saw these photos on our school wall. Our teacher took them at our exhibition opening a while back. When I saw them I thought, fuck, this is how I look when I'm not wearing weird XXXL clothes and look like a zombie at our printer room where I've probably scanned film for 10 hours. Hot estonian who's wearing snakeskin print, silver and shoulder pads in one outfit. I'm really going to miss my classmates, the chemicals that turn pink and turquoise when you develop film and the 30 second school walk.

Easter Holiday starts in two hours and my plan is to be awesome, look gorgeus and take a lot of photos with Mamiya RB67, Olympus Om 10 and Horizon 202, old panoramic camera. The only thing I must remember is to buy some film to our schools Polaroid back for Mamiya RZ67 I still haven't tried out. Forget big problems with little problems.

I'm going to rest for a while, because after this holiday I don't know when the next chance is going to come. Finish Leonard Cohen's Beautiful Losers, sit at our balcony and get some sun, see all my friends, write something new, go somewhere new, read all the magazine I haven't had time for. Shortly, find life again!

I have to admit something to you.
The reason I'm accepting my place at London College of Fashion is based largely on the fact that I want to photograph rappers (preferably with neck tattoos) as soon as possible.
I mean why not, probably every other aspiring young photographer (and probably my future classmates) wants to shoot more backs and hair and serious art and fashion fashion and parties and I love that.
I'm just in it for an entire different reason...
You remember when Snoop Dogg was in the cover of Vogue L'uomo, back in 2007?
That issue is one of my treasures.

I know what happens in future will give me another viewpoint and my artistic vision will grow, but fuck it, I'm 20, I want to dedicate next five years to photogenic dudes without shirt in front of my Mamiya. And after that Vogue, I mean, what did you expect?

I bought the first shirt last month. It's silk. It set me back 1,5 euros. It's longer in the front so you can knot it if you want. It's genius. And I love the colour! I also bought Peter De Potter x Raf Simons tee in the second image from Beam for 27 euros (the image is from Luisaviaroma). The print spoke to me...
Oh and I spilled coffee in London to the silk dream, fuck.
This year I've actually set a clothing budget for myself and it's a super humble amount of 120 euros. I'm at little over 40 euros right now, but I'll manage. The 40 euros has gotten me this, a brown wool cape, black merino knit, super rough brown wool army jacket and some nice jewelry and just a lot of amazing pieces...
I've bought the most from second hands in a small town named Karjaa where I study the weekdays.
Still got the second hand skillz!

A year or so back I posted about Josephus Thimister's combeack Couture collection which I absolutely loved (and included one of his quotes to my sidebar, have a look). I really hoped his business would carry on because you don't get a lot of sincere collections these days, so I was more than happy to click on style.com and see the name Thimister there on latest collections (and Nicolas Andreas Taralis!). The sun has been out, I've been writing job applications, giving a try to NYFW and listening to some rap.
Ok, I think Ohne Titel, Theyskens' Theory and Calvin Klein Collection were pretty solid. In that order.

A warning though, this time of the year I get my fashion awakening, look forward to photobooth pictures of my new favorite, ochre silk shirt that is longer in the front (and cost me 1,5 e BOOM), three color block mohair sweater I practically live in and sporty leather jackets I think people have been neglecting.

It's like every spring I am trying to figure out who I am and what I want to become but this time I've done some research.
I just remember this one moment in London, right after my LCF interview, I was so happy, walked half an hour to wherever my happiness took me, my silk shirt flowing, my Rick shawl keeping me warm, sturdy boots, a nice maxi skirt and a light-coloured leather jacket, a very simple one. I was so happy. Then I turned around and got back to reality but I took a mental note to have that moment again as soon as possible and continue with it. One day you're going to like the side you wake up...

LAITINEN MENSWEAR AW11/12

These are my favorites from Finnish label Laitinen for Fall 2011: amazing prints and jackets to dream about, as usual. I am especially feeling the muddy colour version, an evolution from their usual blue prints and the dropped belt trousers matched with the jacket in the fourth picture pair. You can place the look in Russian countryside, year 1911, but it still manages to look straight up contemporary. The rest of the collection also features beautiful knits and clever silhouettes, inspired by old armywear and new wave. And a dash of unexpected purple keeping it fresh! I chose jj's song Still and used pictures that I photographed on Monday in studio with my Canon 1D Mark II that I got from repair a while back. I was pretty happy with my work and not throwing my tea's to InDesign so I'm sharing this with you! The 'Still' is front image and jj is in the back so it reads out Still JJ, coming from the Still D.R.E beat the song uses. And the smoky print because the song also has some Lil Wayne lines. Yeah I know I'm too clever...

On Sunday I am doing a photoshoot for my portfolio, I have ten outfits and Iida is my model, this is a test photo I took of her while we were doing a fitting. With styling I am going with a lot of muddy colours and blue-based prints, shiny fabrics mixed with ruggy fabrics and a dash of white and some unique leather pieces. You'll see the outcome in couple of weeks!

This week, I've had a lecture on baroque. I think I missed the one about renaissance. Basically, all good in the hood...

I recieved the HL tank I ordered a while back. The print is insane, but the fit not so good. Luckily nothing too bad that a blazer can't hide. I've also been suicidal and went to ebay and typed the words 'helmut lang' and 'leica' in there. Not good for my mental health at all... there's a great og Helmut Lang leather bag and cuff on auction, go take a look if you have a job or a sugar daddy.

Ps. listen to jj - Pressure Is a Privilege. I think if I did music, it would be very close to what jj puts out...this song is a little masterpiece!

I finished my personal statement for UK Universities today.
I applied to Central Saint Martins for Fashion Communication and Promotion,
London College of Fashion for Creative Direction for Fashion and Fashion Photography
and then University of Creative arts for Fashion Promotion & Imaging and Photography (the latter is a collaboration school with the school I am now so basically I'm guaranteed to get in to the Photography program).

Wait, how many times did I just write fashion there?
I am also going to also apply to Stockholm University's Fashion Studies where I got in this year but it never worked out.
And I'm taking a weekly sketching course in case I feel like applying for TAIK here in Finland later. I got to the final stage in the entrance exams this year, too bad I totally lacked the skills...1/5 points from all the last assignments was a bummer. And I do blame my drawing skills, not the clothes I imagined, ha ha.

Fuck it, I just want to say that it took me a good amount of time and patience from my friends to finally get to this cocky, I'm here to learn and I'm pretty awesome and talented stage. I am fully enjoying it.

I've got a secret obsession for double prints and colour.
It's just one of those yeah, it's hard, wait it's not, I think I want a blue car next type of situations.
Well, I'm sure some of you have heard James Blake in these recent months.
I really like his new song, Wilhelms Scream, especially tonight, I'm burning candles, the snow falling outside and I'm seeing my friends soon.
It's a sweet song. I bet he's going to be the R.Kelly of our generation.

Now, this is what I live for.
Eventually you just get to that point.
You take a mental note or two, Moleskines are mainstream behaviour.

This is a first obsession that I think runs throught the family.

I also figured out why I will never be a great photographer.
Great photographers have a certain touch.
I'm all hands on, you know?

To wake up every day and think what I can give, instead of take...
It's like listening to an ukulele cover of Darth Vader theme.
While writing things that can shape the rest of your life.

I know that sounds too epic but it's just as worse as people from middle class going to trips to search themselves and be free.
Wake up, if you want to know what freedom really is simply go somewhere where it doesn't exist.
Give your tickets to me, I've learned the world through a screen.

Give a better excuse why you can't love while staying here.
You're afraid, aren't you?
I can always tell, I'm doing it too, but without the privileges.
